In the Green APS project, innovative technologies and different data sources are linked together to adjust the concert of #production to #energy #energyefficiency. One of the technology companies involved is TVARIT GmbH. Their service portfolio includes #AI based optimization of production processes through prescriptive analytics. Based on its own developed Industrial AI platform, Tvarit GmbH is able to offer customized AI solutions in wide areas of production, especially foundries & metalworking Industries, in short lead times. This empowers the manufacturers on their journey towards zero waste & #sustainability by increasing the overall #manufacturing efficiency through its physics-fused AI platform.
Within the Green APS project, Tvarit takes on the task of providing intelligently processed data for energy-efficient production #planning. For this purpose, dynamic KPIs, predictions of the energy balance as well as anomaly detection is implemented based on data from the shop floor. In interaction with intelligent planning, a system is realized which can react dynamically to external influences.

Green Planning: A step ahead
Planning, in a first analysis, is to resolve conflicts of interest between commercial and production departments. The need to monetize available production capacity represents an opportunity to optimize resources and improve the process:
· Within the desired timeframe
· Where they were planned
· In the order they were planned
For that it’s needed to have flexible and efficient algorithms based on meta-heuristics (relatively general techniques for combinatorial optimization problems), with multi-objective variants and sophisticated decision support systems that reinforce the role of the decision maker and its interaction with the entire system.
It should also be possible to optimize the solution initially obtained. For that, the advanced optimization algorithms handle large amounts of information, calculating optimized scenarios from the simulated ones, freeing the user to analyze them. The user’s experience is crucial for the analysis of the results, thus adding value to the entire process.
The system should also be a decision-making support tool that helps the user to choose one of the several simulated planning scenarios, allowing a quick and intuitive comparison at the planning stage, with an unlimited number of different planning scenarios, in which each of them can have thousands of data associated with, in the most complex cases.
The software planner must also take into consideration the energy efficiency goals. And so, the result of this project is a tool based on a multi-objective planning and scheduling engine that incorporates the effective energy usage as a relevant objective.

INESC TEC Introduction
The coordinator of project Green APS is INESC TEC. INESC TEC is a private non-profit research institution with 30 years of experience in R&D and technology transfer, incorporating 13 R&D Centres, structured in four thematic domains – Computer Science, Industry and Innovation, Networked Intelligent Systems, and Power and Energy. As an institution operating at the interface of the academic and business worlds, it brings closer together academia, companies, public administration, and society. INESC TEC will contribute to Green APS with its Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) system, which has been already integrated into the software products of some companies and is today commercialized by them in Europe, South America, and China. INESC TEC will look at the two distinct use cases problems & requirements and the result from data analytics provided by TVARIT to design a new methodology and optimization techniques that will allow for Softi9’s APS to address not only Voestalpine and RP situations but also every industrial company that needs an APS capable to provide energy efficient scheduling solutions.

Green APS Presentation
Systems, thus reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint of manufacturing companies. Green APS addresses energy and production efficiency in industry by adding energy sources and consumption variables, thus minimizing energy consumption and maximizing the use of renewable energy sources. The consortium has technology providers of scheduling engine, ERP, and AI solutions and two use cases in the metal parts industry. The commercialization of the solution is assured by the two technology companies in the consortium..
